MSU Baseball Family Mourns The Passing Of Todd Satterfield

The Murray State Baseball family lost one of its own this week when Todd Satterfield passed away (Aug. 10) at the age of 33 in Henderson, Ky. Â

Satterfield played for the Murray State Thoroughbreds from 2001-02 for former MSU coach Mike Thieke. Satterfield also played at John A. Logan College before coming to MSU.

Satterfield displayed a valiant battle against cancer that endeared himself to people in his community and around the world.

"I know I can speak for his teammates and the coaches he played for at Murray State and John A. Logan," Thieke said. "Todd was a joy to coach and he was a great teammate to the guys who knew him and he will always be remembered for that. He will be missed greatly."

Playing on the 'Breds infield for the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Satterfield hit .245 as a junior and then upped it to .301 as a senior. He finished at MSU with 16 career doubles and one home run. He played prep baseball at hometown Henderson County High School and then at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill.

According to The Gleaner, Satterfield battled esophageal cancer and live past the time most doctors had given him. He also made Vanderbilt University's medical books when he became the first person with stage IV esophageal cancer ever to have an esophagectomy in November 2012.

Satterfield  was known online for his daily Live ON Purpose! Inspirational messages to hundreds of close friends and thousands of Facebook followers. His motto was "+1", he used it to remind himself every day of his commitments to bring at least one person closer to Jesus Christ.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 13) at One Life Church with burial in St. Louis Cemetery.
