Racers Compete in the Cardinal Intercollegiate

The Murray State University men's golf team competed in the first round of play at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisville, today at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. After 18 holes of play the Racers stand tied for 5th with a score of 294.Â
Leading the pack going into round two this afternoon is Louisville with a score of 284. Western Carolina carded 288 to come in a close second and Cincinnati is not far behind with 290.
Tied for 8th place with a score of 71 is Murray State's leader, Jordan Smith. Preston French is not far behind after scoring par (72) in tenth place. Jared Gosser carded 74 to place himself in 29th while TJ Ferry scored 77 for 51st place. Chasten Howard's 81 rounded out the Murray State playing field for 76th place out of 84 players.
In individual play, Brock Simmons carded a score of 81.Â
The Cardinal Club course consists of a par-72 layout that covers 7,036 yards. Â
Weather conditions during round one of competition were clear and sunny with a calm wind at 70 degrees.
