Racers Led By Smith and French At Cardinal Intercollegiate

After 36 holes of golf at the Cardinal Intercollegiate this afternoon at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky., the Murray State Racers moved from fifth to eighth in the overall tournament.
 With scores of 294-296=590, the Racers trailed first place Louisville (567), Austin Peay (574) and Mercer (582).
Finishing the day with the best scores for the Racers was Jordan Smith with scores of 71-72=143. Smith is tied for 10th behind McNeese State's Hampus Bergman (137), Western Carolina's J.T. Poston (138) and Cincinnati's Emerson Newsome (139).
Preston French finished close behind Smith with scores of 72-72=144 for a 13th place finish at the end of the day. Jared Gosser carded scores of 74-75=149 for a 29th place finish while T.J. Ferry finished in 56th after scoring 77-77=154. Rounding out team play for the Racers was Chasten Howard who scored 81-77=158 for a 73rd   place finish.
In individual play, Brock Simmons tied for 80th place in the field of 84 competitors after carding scores of 81-79=160.
Play will resume Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
The Cardinal Club course consists of a par-72 layout that covers 7,036 yards.Â
Weather conditions during round two of competition were clear and sunny with a calm wind at 70 degrees.
