The 10th annual Miller Memorial Invitational hosted by the Murray State men's golf team is Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 1-2) at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.
A morning shotgun start gets both days going with 36 holes of stroke play Monday and 18 holes to finish the tournament Tuesday morning.
Of the 13 teams competing, seven are Ohio Valley Conference members including Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, Belmont and two teams from Murray State. Non-conference teams competing are Alabama State, Bethel, John A. Logan, Lipscomb, Union and Western Illinois.
Last year's championship marked just the second time that bad weather caused the tournament to be cut short as 36 holes were played. Union University won the title with a score of 568 for a one-shot win over Lipscomb. The Racers finished third at 572 which marked the first time they didn't win the title. Lipscomb's Blanton Farmer was medalist in 2012 after winning a dramatic six person playoff. Patrick Newcomb and Hunter York had the best finishes for the Racers with scores of 141.
The 54-hole team scoring record came in 2005 when the Racers shot 832 for a six-shot win over Western Illinois. The single-round record was a 272 by the Racers' in 2008. The individual tournament scoring mark is 197 by Scott Stallings of Tennessee Tech in 2005. Stallings is now a regular on the PGA Tour. The record low score for a Murray State player was Patrick Newcomb's 205 in 2011.
