Groves To Take Over Women’s Soccer

A veteran of three NCAA Tournament appearances, winner of an SEC tournament title, an OVC regular-season championship and two OVC tournament crowns, Jeremy Groves has been named as the third head coach in the history of Murray State women's soccer, director of athletics Allen Ward announced Monday.
"I'm excited that Coach Groves has agreed to join the Racer family and become our newest head coach,' said Ward. "He has played and coached at the highest level and his knowledge of the OVC will be invaluable as he takes the reins of our program. I'm completely confident he will lead us back to the championship level we recently enjoyed in women's soccer."
"It is a fantastic opportunity to come to Murray State," said Groves. "I feel like we can do well here and win an OVC title, which is the reason I took this job. I saw the team play last year and they did a good job against Morehead State, so I am pretty excited about the talent level we have returning. With women's soccer recruiting so far in advance, it will be a process to bring new talent to our program, but I am ready to hit the road and do just that."
Groves is no stranger to the OVC as he comes to the Racers from Morehead State, where he served as an assistant since 2010. While with the Eagles, Groves helped lead the team to three OVC tournament championship game appearances, the 2010 OVC regular season championship and the 2010 and 2013 OVC tournament titles.
While at Morehead, Groves served the team in several areas including scheduling, scouting, tactical planning and recruiting. In his position as the main recruiter for the Eagles, Groves brought in several talented players including the 2013 OVC Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year, Jade Flory and Angela Black. While on staff at Morehead, the Eagles posted a 20-12-5 record in OVC play, including an undefeated league season in 2010.
Prior to Morehead, Groves spent six seasons at his alma mater, Kentucky. He spent the first two with the women's team and the last four with the men's side. While with the Wildcat women, Groves helped train the goalkeepers and prepared scouting reports. During those two seasons, the Wildcats experienced great success, including winning the 2006 SEC Tournament. With the men, Groves served in an expanded role helping prepare team training sessions, assisting in recruiting, maintaining team academic standards, as well as assisting in the marketing and promotion of the program.
Groves a native of Leeds, England, began his playing career in the academy of his hometown club, Leeds United A.F.C. After coming up in the Leeds system, he also played for Rotherham United and York City F.C.
Once moving to America, Groves spent one season at Virginia Intermont before transferring to Kentucky. While at UK, Groves helped lead the Wildcats to two straight MAC championships in 2003 and 2004. After graduating from UK with a degree in Kinesiology and Business, Groves continued to play with the Lafayette Swamp Cats of the Premier Development League and also represented the United Kingdom in the 2005 World University Games in Turkey.
Groves has a Junior Team Coaches License, as well as his Level One & Level Two Certificates from the English Football Association. Making the move to Murray with Groves, will be his wife Melissa and two-year old son, Aidan.
