In the first ITA report of the 2014 season, freshman Eleonore Tchakarova finds herself ranked 118th in the national singles rankings. The ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) ranks the top 125 players in Division I.
Tchakarova, a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria, is the first Racer to be nationally ranked by the ITA in the history of the program, and the first under Coach Olga Elkin. She is also the only student-athlete to be ranked from the OVC.
Regarding the ranking Elkin said "I'm really happy for Nona. We all put in a lot of hard work during the fall and it's always good to see that work rewarded. We're really excited to start the spring season".
The Racers open their spring season Sunday, Jan. 26 against Lindsey Wilson at Kenlake State Park.
The ITA determines their rankings on a formula based on wins and losses and opponent rankings.
