After a long break since their fall schedule, Murray State's women's tennis team begins their spring season with their first dual match against Lindsey Wilson. The match will be held Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. at Kenlake State Park.
Last season the Racers finished 11-9 in dual matches under first year head coach Olga Elkin. "We're all really excited to get started. We've had a long winter and I think the girls are ready for some competition."
In the first singles rankings of the season, Murray State had its first ever player ranked. Freshman Eleonore Tchakarova was ranked No. 117 by the ITA. She will be making her spring debut along with fellow freshmen Andrea Eskauriatza and Tchakarova's twin sister, Verginie.
Returning for the Racers will be senior Carla Suga and sophomore Megan Blue, Erin Patton and Suzaan Stoltz. Suga led the Racers last year with a 14-6 record in dual matches on her way to being named All-OVC Second Team. Blue also had a successful freshman campaign, being named All-OVC Second Team, finishing 13-5 in dual matches.
The Racers first match is against the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. Coming out of the NAIA, this will also be the spring opener for the Blue Raiders. A year ago, Lindsey Wilson finished 19-3 in dual matches, advancing all the way to the NAIA National Tournament semifinals.
The indoor match will take place at Kenlake State Park, located at 542 Kenlake Road, Hardin, Ky. 42048.
