Mooney & Stevens Earn OVC Weekly Honors

Murray State grabbed another pair of weekly women's soccer awards from the Ohio Valley Conference as Julie Mooney was named OVC Player of the Week and Taylor Stevens was tabbed as OVC Defensive Player of the Week.

In voting by the league's sports information directors, Mooney and Stevens were honored with OVC weekly awards in the same week for the second time getting the same Sept. 26.

The Racers scored back-to-back wins over the weekend with home wins over Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky to run their home win streak to seven straight and grab a share of OVC first place.

Mooney, a senior from St. Peters, Mo., had her second hat trick of the season in a 5-0 win over Morehead when she scored the first three goals of the game. She also added an assist.

Mooney was also on the list of honorees nationally when she was named a National Primetime Player by CollegeSoccer360.com

Stevens, a Jr. from Ft. Wayne, Ind., helped the Racer defense to 180 minutes of shutout ball and she had an assist in both wins.

The Racers (8-7, 4-2 OVC) hit the road this weekend with a Friday game in Charleston, Ill., against Eastern Illinois at 3 p.m. The Racers return home for senior day (Oct. 26) when they host Belmont.
