Gold Team Takes Game-1 Of Racers' Fall Series

The Murray State Baseball team began its World Series scrimmages Friday at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Navy vs Gold series is a best-of-five competition as Coach Kevin Moulder's team is split into two teams for fall bragging rights.

Game one turned in the sixth inning when the Gold team trailed 6-3 heading to the bottom of the frame. The Gold plated four runs to take a 7-6 lead which they made stick. Nick Moore tied the game with a base hit and the winning run came home on a bases loaded walk by Kip Moore. John Lollar took the loss giving four runs (three earned) in 2/3 of an inning.

The winning pitcher was Chad Gendron who worked two innings for the Gold and gave two runs on one hit. He struck out a pair and walked one batter.

Nick Moore led the Gold team with a 2-4 day with a double and two runs scores, while Tyler Lawrence went 2-2 with a triple and a run driven home.
Tyler Bearden had a pair of hits including a 3-run homer in the second inning, he also added a double.

The Navy team was led by Taylor Mathews with a 2-4 day and Anthony Bayus who had a solo homerun and scored twice. Derek Yoder had a three-hit day with a double and one RBI.

Returning Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year Brock Downey pitched two scoreless innings for the Gold with a pair of strikeouts.

Game two is Saturday at 1 p.m., fans are invited to come out and see the Racers.
