Gold Takes Game-2 Of Racers Fall Series

The Murray State Baseball team played game two of its fall scrimmage World Series Saturday at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky.

The Gold team took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with a 6-2 win on the back of four strong innings from winning pitcher Sheldon Baxter. The senior didn't give up a run on one hit. Paul Miller also threw a scoreless inning in relief for the Gold.

The game turned for the Gold in the 5th inning when Brock Downey delivered an RBI hit for a 2-1 lead. Kip Moore sealed the win for the Gold in the bottom of the 7th with a 2-out RBI hit to make it a 6-2 game.

Brandon Hicks took the loss for the Navy team going four innings while giving one run , two hits and striking out three.

Other offensive standouts for the Gold included Tyler Lawrence with two hits including a double. Lawrence has reached base in every one of his eight plate appearances in the two games of the series.

In a losing cause for the Navy, Anthony Bayus went 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, Taylor Mathews had a triple for the Navy.

The series resumes with game-3 Friday at Reagan Field at 3 p.m. Even if the Gold team takes a 3-0 lead in the series, the Racers will play game four Saturday at noon.
