Stamper Leads Racers At Old Waverly

The Murray State women's golf team showed an improvement of eight shots in round two of the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational Monday in Starkville, Miss.
The event at Mississippi State is annually one of the best fields that the Racers will see.
The Racers fired a 309 in Monday's first round, but posted a 301 Tuesday for a spot in 11th place with a total score of 610. The Racers were a stroke up on Mercer (611) and 10 shots clear of Cincinnati (620). MSU trailed Southern Mississippi by three shots and South Alabama by six shots.
Abbi Stamper led the Racers with a spot in 32nd place after she carded scores of 76-73=149. She had four bogeys and three birdies today.
Jacklyn Van Meter was in 31st place with rounds of 76-74=150, while Sydney Trimble had a spot in 46th place with a 77-78=155. Moa Folke had a spot in 55th after rounds of 81-76=157. Sophie Hillier was in 70th place with rounds of 80-83=163.
Host Mississippi State had the lead with at 562, ahead of Memphis (584). South Florida & FIU (586), Houston (587) and Samford (589) made up the top-6. Troy was seventh place at 596, with Iowa (602) holding down eighth place.
The event is a three-day 54-hole affair that ends Wednesday. The Racers start at 8:30 a.m. and will be paired with Southern Miss and Mercer.
Old Waverly is playing to a par of 72 and 6,229 yards.
The final round at Mississippi State Wednesday marks the end of the fall portion of the 2014-15 season for the Racers. They will return in 2015 to play in the Bobby Nichols Invitational in Sevierville, Tennessee (March 16-17).
