Navy Strikes Back In Racer World Series

The Navy scored a 5-2 win over the Gold to get back into the Murray State Baseball Fall World Series as they made the scrimmage showdown a 2-1 lead for the Gold.

Game four in the series has been moved to 11 a.m. Saturday at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. It was previously scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

Navy pitcher Brandon Hicks was commanding in his five innings Friday, giving no runs on three hits. He had a pair of strikeouts. Cameron Wallace picked up the save giving Paul Miller the loss.

The first part of game three was a pitching duel as Brad Boegel matched Hicks with four solid innings, giving no runs on four hits.

In the top of the 5th Dalton West of the Navy team drove in Matt Johnson who had doubled. The Navy got more in the 6th inning when they took advantage of a pair of walks before Derek Yoder blasted a two-out 3-run homerun for a 4-0 lead. The Navy added one run in the 7th to take a 5-0 lead.

The Gold team fought back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th. Â Nick Moore tripled and scored on a double by Kollin Dowdy.Â

In the 9th inning, the Gold team loaded the bases with two outs but Cameron Wallace came in to record the save forcing Dowdy into an infield pop-up.

Matt Johnson led the Navy with a 3-for-4 day, while Clay Kelly had a pair of hits.

The Navy team entered the day down 2-0 in the best-of-five series, but now heading into Saturday's 11 a.m. game four, it's anybody's ball game. Racer fans are invited to come out to Reagan Field and enjoy the fall with weather with some baseball before the Racer football team hosts Kentucky Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
