Smith Leads MSU At Paris Landing

The Murray State men's golf team took on the Paris Landing State Park course in Buchanan, Tenn. with 36 holes of play at the Skyhawk Fall Classic hosted by UT Martin.

Overnight rain caused a one hour delay as play finally started at 9 a.m.

And again, Murray State senior Jordan Smith is leading the Racers as he has done in the first three events of the fall. Smith carded back-to-back 3-under-par 69's and stands in third place with a 6-under-par 138 total. Smith will play in the final threesome in Tuesday's with Alabama State's Francis Berthiaume and UT Martin's Brendon Caballero who each scored 135.

The Racers start the final round in third place after scores of 287-284=571. MSU trails second place UTM (565) and first place Alabama State (559). Southern Illinois (577) and Jackson State (580) rounded out the top-5.

Other Murray State scores included Jared Gosser with a spot in 11^th place after scores of 73-70=143 and Preston French in 15^th place with rounds of 73-72=145. T.J. Ferry had scores of 76-73=149 and was in 27^th place, while Matthew Zakutney was in 33^rd place after rounds of 72-78=150.

The Racers have three playing as individuals including Brock Simmons and Duncan McCormick who had a share of 33^rd place. Simmons carded a 1-under-par 71 in the morning round, but bumped up to a 79 in the afternoon for a 150 total. McCormick had scores of 76-74=150. Myles Morrissey was in 48^th place in the field of 53 players with scores of 74-83=157.

The course at Paris Landing is one of the signature courses of the Tennessee State Park system. It's playing to a par-72 and 6,685 yards.

Tuesday's final 18 holes begins with a shot gun start at 8 a.m.
