Fifteen home games, Big Ten, Missouri Valley, and MAC matchups, and first time opponents are all part of the 2014-15 Murray State women's basketball schedule that was announced by head coach Rob Cross on Monday.
"We have a put together a very competitive schedule," said Cross. "This schedule is going to challenge our team with a balance of quality home games and some difficult road trips in the non-conference portion. We have programs from top ten RPI leagues coming into the CFSB Center and a great Thanksgiving tournament. I know our fans appreciate the effort to bring quality opponents to Murray, KY and play some double headers with our men's program. When conference play begins on January 3rd, we should be prepared for the rigors of the always tough Ohio Valley Conference."
Fans can get their first look at the 2014-15 team on Nov. 14 when they face MAC opponent Ohio at 5 p.m. at the CFSB Center. They have not faced Ohio since 1998, and it will be the first of nine double-headers the women's and men's team share. The women will continue to play two home games in three days against Alabama A&M (Nov. 16) and first-time opponent, Blackburn (Nov. 18)
The Racers will take their first road trip to Dayton, Ohio to face Wright State on Nov. 20, before returning home on Nov. 25 to play Lipscomb. Then, Murray State will go to Muncie, Indiana to compete in the Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgiving Classic. First, the Racers will play Ball State on Nov. 29 and then either play Jackson State or Duquesne University on Nov. 30 in the consolation or championship game. If the Racers face Jackson State it will be the first time since 2003, and if they face Duquesne it will be the first time in program history.
MSU will come back to Murray, for one game against Missouri Valley opponent Evansville, before traveling to Kennesaw, Georgia on Dec. 6 to face Kennesaw State. The Racers will then take a trip to Carbondale, Illinois on Dec. 16 to face another Missouri Valley opponent Southern Illinois.
Murray State will come home Dec. 20 to face Jacksonville University at the CFSB Center, before going to Champaign, Illinois to face off against Big Ten opponent Illinois for the first time, on Dec. 22. The Racers will close out their non-conference slate on Dec. 30 to face Brescia for the first time since 2006 at The Bank before starting conference play in January.
The Racers will kick-off their OVC slate on Jan. 3 when they travel to Morehead State. This year's OVC home opener will take place Jan. 15 against Tennessee State.
Other notable OVC contests played at home include Tennessee State (Jan. 15), Belmont (Jan. 17), Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 22), UT Martin (Jan. 31), Southeast Missouri (Feb. 5), SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 12), and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 18) will all make a trip to the CFSB Center.
