NCAA Dreams Can Be Fulfilled At OVC Championship

Game Notes I OVC Championship
The Murray State Racers compete at the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship against the Morehead State Eagles Thursday at 4 p.m. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Southeast Missouri State is the host at Houck Stadium.

The Racers are coming off a 1-0 win Friday at UT Martin which helped secure the No. 3 seed. The Racers are facing a Morehead State squad that has had success in the postseason.

Racer rookie head coach Jeremy Groves is in his first season in Murray after serving for four seasons as an assistant with the Eagles. The Racers won the first meeting at home this season with Morehead 5-0.

The Racers are 11-8 and went 7-3 in OVC play. After starting the season 1-5, the Racers caught fire and finished 10-3.

Now the Racers prepare for a Thursday OVC Tournament game in what is their first appearance in the postseason since 2011.

With 11 wins, the Racers have matched the second-best win total in the 15 seasons of the program. MSU has matched the 11 wins that the teams from 2007 and 2009 had. If MSU can win their first round game in the OVC Tournament, they'll tie the 12 wins that the 2008 team had.
The Racers are making their 10th appearance in the OVC Soccer Tournament in their 15th season as a program and their first since 2011. MSU is 6-6-2 all-time (2-0-1 home, 0-1-0 road, 4-5-1 neutral). MSU's only OVC Tournament championship came at Morehead State in 2009 when they won three matches, all by shutout.
