Murray State women's golf coach Velvet Milkman announced the signing of Jane Watts of Woodford County High School in Versailles, Ky.
Â
Watts will be a freshman in the fall of 2015 with the Racers.
Â
"I'm excited that Jane has chosen to come to Murray State and be a part of our Racer family," Milkman said. "She's an excellent student and a very good athlete. Jane has great upside potential and being a two- sport athlete, she knows what it means to compete.  I anticipate her improving quickly once she focuses all her attention on golf."Â
Â
As a senior at Woodford County, Watts had an excellent 2014 season which included her qualifying for the Kentucky State Tournament for a second time. She fired rounds of 80-83 and finished in 26th place at Bowling Green Country Club. She carded a 75 in the KHSAA Region-7 Championship to get a spot at state.
Â
Watts also had several other good finishes last fall including a third place showing at the Dunbar Invitational at Kearney Hills. She placed sixth at the Joy Invitational at Turkey Trace with a score of 78 and she shot a 75 at the Gene Hilen Invitational at Juniper Hills to finish seventh.
Â
Watts also played soccer for Woodford County and was the Yellow Jackets 2014 team captain. She earned All-Region-7 honors as a junior and senior.
She scored the winning goal in the first round of the 2014 Region 7 tournament in double overtime to defeat top seed Scott County.
Â
Her father Stan Watts is a Murray State alum and played football for the Racers from 1968-71.
