UT Martin scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for good in a 6-5 victory over Murray State in the series finale Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Park.
The Breds (9-8, 4-2 OVC) got on the board in the first inning as Ty Stetson beat out an infield single and went to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Matt McGowan followed with an RBI single to left field.
The Skyhawks (2-14, 1-5 OVC) came right back in the home-half of the inning with a two-run home run from Phil Sorensen. They added a run in the fifth on a solo home run off the bat of Taylor Douglas.
MSU regained in the lead in the sixth inning as they pushed across four runs on only an infield single. Two walks and an error on a bunt attempt loaded the bases with no outs. With two outs, Taylor Mathews drew a walk to score one run. A wild pitch pushed across another run and Stetson drove in the third run with a single into the hole at short. An error on a stolen-base attempt allowed the fourth run of the inning to score.
UTM rallied in the seventh inning to regain the lead. A pair of singles put runners on the corners with one out. Douglas doubled off the fence in center to score one run before Ben Upton drove in two runs with a single to left field.
Andrew Bramley (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning. John Houston (1-0) picked up the victory after throwing 3.1 shutout innings, allowing three hits.
Stetson, McGowan and Kelly each had two hits in the game.
The Breds return to action Tuesday evening as they travel to take on Memphis. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
