Due to scheduled off days and incliment weather, Murray State's women's tennis team hadn't been on the court since February 22. The Racers showed no rust however, sweeping a match on the road against Alabama A&M 5-0. The win puts the Racers at 5-3 and two games over .500 for the first time since the first two games of the season.
The teams competed at only four singles and two doubles draws with the Racers coming out on top in each. MSU won the doubles point on the backs of both Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova at first and Carla Suga and Megan Blue sweeping 8-0 at second.
In the singles competition, Suzaan Stoltz played her first match of the spring season. Playing in the No. 4 slot, Stoltz went 6-0, 6-0 over Leslie Ekpe.Â
Stoltz wasn't the only one with straight shutouts, Verginie Tchakarova also went 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 draw against Khyana Price.
Suga and Eleonore Tchakarova completed the singles wins for MSU at first and second singles respectively. Suga took down Orianna Rodriguez 6-2, 6-2 and Eleonore won 6-0, 6-1 over Jessica Taylor.
This was the first ever meeting between the Racers and the Bulldogs.Â
MSU has a quick turnaround as they'll stay in Alabama to take on Jacksonville State in their first OVC match of 2014. The Racers are 5-1 in OVC openers the last six years.Â
