The Murray State University softball team has partnered with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to host a "StrikeOut Cancer Day" at Racer Field this Saturday, Apr. 26, when the Racers take on the Cougars of SIU Edwardsville for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
The Racers will wear pink bows in their hair, in addition to the bases being painted pink for "StrikeOut Cancer Day." In addition, 100 pink baseball caps will be handed out to fans in attendance for FREE. All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink and show their support for the fight against cancer.
"We are excited for the StrikeOut Cancer day as it will be a chance for the community to come out and support a good cause while cheering on Racer softball," said athletics marketing assistant Amy Pulpaneck.
Fans will be encouraged to make a pledge during the doubleheader to help donate money based on the amount of opposing batters Murray State strikes out. Forms will be available all day to make a pledge and all proceeds will go to the local American Cancer Society. Information about cancer awareness and cancer prevention will also be available at the games.
The StrikeOut Cancer initiative unites the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to help raise funds and awareness to fight cancer. Since starting the StrikeOut Cancer program over ten years ago, NFCA member teams have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. In addition to fundraised dollars, this initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research.
Admission to the game is free. For additional information please contact Amy Pulpaneck at (270) 809-7048 or apulpaneck@murraystate.edu.
