Zakutney Named To OVC Newcomer Team

OVC Men's Golf Awards
Murray State men's golf student-athlete Matt Zakutney earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Freshman Team in a banquet and ceremony Friday in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
The annual awards were handed out after the men's field finished the first round of the OVC Championship.
Zakutney, out of Saint Mary's High School in Paducah, Ky., had a scoring average at 75.9 which ranked him fourth among OVC freshmen. His best finish of the season was in October when he placed 26th at the Skyhawk Classic with rounds of 69-73-75=217 at Paris Landing State Park. His 3-under-par 69 at the Skyhawk Classic also represented his low round of the season.
Zakutney is the seventh MSU player to be named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team since it was first named in 2006. He joins teammate Preston French who was on the newcomer team last season. Mark Brant was the first Racer to be named in 2007 and was followed in 2008 by Cameron Carrico and Nick Newcomb. Patrick Newcomb was named in 2010 and Hunter York in 2011.
The rest of the OVC Newcomer Team includes Patric Sundlof (Eastern Kentucky), Jamie Mist (Jacksonville State), Jordan Peters (SIUE) and Austin Swafford (UT Martin).
