Senior Leslie Bridges of Murphysboro, Illinois was named to the prestigious Capital One Academic All-District team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America, on Thursday. As a result, she is now eligible to be named to one of three Academic All-America teams that will be released later this month.
Through her entire undergraduate career and thus far in her graduate work, Bridges has posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. Bridges graduated early with a degree in applied mathematics and is currently working on a master's in business administration. She is a three-time OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree, a three-time OVC Medal of Honor winner and a three-time NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete selection.
This season, Bridges is batting .239 with three doubles, a home run, 12 RBIs and 20 walks. In addition to her work at the plate, she currently owns the best fielding percentage in school history at .990, has the most putouts at 1,092 and has turned the most double plays at 25. In 1,149 total chances in the field she has committed only 12 errors, for an average of just three per season.
Bridges is now the fourth Racer in program history to earn the honor, joining Lauren Buch in 2011 and Alexa Becker and CheyAnne Gaskey last season. On May 22, Bridges will find out if she joins Becker as just the second MSU softball player to be named as an Academic All-American.
