Student-Athletes Say Thank You to Racer Club

Members of various varsity teams from Murray State University spent several evenings recently participating in the Racers' first Thank-A-Thon.

The student-athletes used the opportunity to call members of the Racer Club, the private fund raising arm of the athletic department at Murray State University, to say thank-you to the donors for their contributions and encourage their continued support during the upcoming fund drive. The Racer Club membership drive begins June 15.

"Thank-A-Thons have become more common in recent years", stated Paul Bubb, Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Murray State. "This was the first year we have engaged in the calls, but we also put a new little twist to it as well."

The new twist included a thank you video that was emailed to Racer Club members and posted to MSU Athletics Twitter and Facebook accounts. In the video various Racer student-athletes, many speaking in their native language, say "thank you" to the Racer Club members. The video also features a large-group "Thank You Racer Club" that was filmed at the MSU Student Athlete Athletic Council's annual spring banquet.

"Social media plays an important role for us in communicating with our donors and season ticket holders," said Bubb. "We felt this was certainly a way in which we should reach out, in addition to the traditional home phone calls, to touch all in the Racer Nation."

"With the social media reach we were able to let non-donors know how much they mean to us. Hopefully that will give them encouragement to to join the Racer Club and provide even greater support for our teams."

The Racer Club has more than 1,100 members whom the student-athletes reached out to during five nights of calling in May.
