Zakutney Paces Racers At The Kentucky State Am

Murray State men's golf had good showing by current and past players this week at the Clark's Pump-N-Shop Marathon Kentucky State Amateur Championship.
The 103rd staging of the Commonwealth's top men's championship was played at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club in Georgetown, Ky., June 17-19.
Matt Zakutney led the way among current Racer Golf student-athletes with an 11th place finish with scores of 71-68-73=212. Zakutney, who will be a sophomore at MSU in the fall, placed third in this event a year ago.
Other current Racers and their finishes included: Brock Simmons and Preston French each with a share of 29th place. French scored rounds of 73-71-73=217, while Simmons had rounds of 74-72-71=217.
Duncan McCormick had scores of 76-70-73=219 for a spot in 41st place. T.J. Ferry missed the cut with scores of 73-77 as did Jared Gosser (76-75=151) and Daniel Harper (79-73=152).
Chris Griffin led the contingent of former Racers as the MSU women's golf assistant coach placed ninth with rounds of 68-71-72=211. Hunter York finished 29th with scores of 73-74-70=217. Grant Price placed 41st with rounds of 73-75-71=219.
Racer Golf has produced three championships in the Kentucky Am with Patrick Newcomb winning back-to-back in 2011 and 2012. Chris Wilson was the winner in 1992.
The Cherry Blossom course played to a par-72 and a length of 6,842 yards.
Tom Campbell of Danville, Ky., was the champion with scores of 67-67-70=204.
