Racer Golf Shows Well At Kentucky Women's Am

Murray State was well represented at the 88th Kentucky Women's Amateur (June 24-27) at Lakeside Golf Course in Lexington, Kentucky.
The event features one round of stroke play that set three brackets of match play to determine a champion.
The Racers had two current student-athletes win first round matches including Abbi Stamper and Leah Rose Judd. MSU Hall of Famer Jessica (Widman) Grace also advanced to the round of 16.
Stamper defeated Racers' incoming freshman Anna Moore 4 & 3, but lost in the quarterfinals 1-up. Moore went to the consolation bracket and posted a 1-up win before falling in the semifinals 4 & 2.
Judd won her opening match 3 & 2 and then lost in the second round 4 & 3. Grace, a former student-athlete and Murray State Hall of Fame member, won her opening match 4 & 3 before bowing out 2-up. Nuzzo lost her opening match 2 & 1, and then won in the consolation bracket in 19 holes before losing in the semifinals 4 & 3.
The event got underway with 18 holes of stroke play where Grace led the Racer contingent with a 73.

The overall winner of the Kentucky State Am was Lydia Gumm who defeated April Emmerson in the final match 4 & 3. Caroline Moore defeated Kathryn Edgington 2-up to win the consolation title. Laura McQueen was the first flight champion 3 & 2 over Allison Leigeb, while Teena Friebert won the consolation title 2-up over Melanie Simpson. Jean Vickers won the second flight title 1-up over Roz Tender. Betty Williamson won the consolation 5 & 4 over Sandi Morgan.
