Racers Day One At UL Cardinal Cup

The Murray State women's golf team teed it up for 36 holes Monday at the Cardinal Cup, hosted at the University of Louisville Golf Course in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
When sunset came, the Racers were in 10th place after rounds of 311-309=620, a shot up on Northern Illinois and three shots clear of Cincinnati. The Racers trailed ninth place Bradley by 10 shots.
Moa Folke led the way for the Racers in day one with scores of 78-76=154 which was good for a spot in 38th place in the field of 100 competitors. MSU had a pair sharing 47th place including Sydney Trimble (78-78=156) and Sophie Hillier (79-77=156), while Jacklyn Van Meter shared 54th place with Abbi Stamper. Van Meter had rounds of 79-78=157, with Stamper carding rounds of 76-81=157.
MSU's Minta Yin is competing in the event as an individual and had the low round of the day for the Racers with a 3-over-par 75 in round-one. Yin was in 47th place after rounds of 75-81=157.
Middle Tennessee was the first day leader with rounds of 289-295=584, nine shots ahead of host Louisville at 593. Memphis (594), Kennesaw State (600) and James Madison (601) rounded out the top-5.
Michaela Fletcher of Memphis was the medalist leader after 36 holes with scores of 71-71=142. Kennesaw State's Kaew Preamchuen was one shot back after carding scores of 70-73=143.
The UL Golf Club is playing to a par-72 this week and 6,223 yards.
The final round of the 54-hole event is Tuesday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Central Time. The Racers will be paired with UNI, UC and Bradley and start on holes No. 7 through 10.
