The Murray State softball team split a fall doubleheader with Division II Truman on Sunday at Racer Field in Murray. The Bulldogs edged the Racers in the seventh inning of game one for a 6-5 win, but MSU bounced back in game two with a combined no-hitter from Mason Robinson and J.J. Francis to top Truman, 8-0.

The Racer got off to an early 3-0 lead in the opener, thanks in part to a pair of RBI singles in the second from Julia Liceaga and Erika Downey. However, the Bulldogs hung around eventually took a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, MSU was able to tie at five the game thanks to Liceaga who singled in her at bat, then moved to third on a single from Alexa Becker before stealing home on the same play. Despite their efforts in the sixth, the game got away from MSU in the seventh when Truman loaded the bases with two singles and an error by the Racers.

Ally McReynolds then put the Bulldogs on top for good later in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to score Alexis VanNostrad from third. Murray State was unable to respond in the bottom of the inning and fell in game one, 6-5.

Liceaga finished the game at 2-for-3, while Jessica Twaddle was a perfect 2-for-2. Haven Campbell took the loss for MSU in the contest after allowing one earned run on five hits with one walk and a strikeout over the final three innings. CheyAnne Gaskey tossed the first four innings for the Racers and aave up two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts.

After combining to throw a one-hitter last weekend against John A. Logan, the Francis and Robinson out-did themselves with a no-hitter in game two against Truman. Robinson started the game and stuck out six with no walks in the first four innings, while Francis earned the save by completing the no-hitter with just one walk.

The offense was equally as impressive in the finale as MSU scored eight runs on 12 hits. Twaddle and Maggie Glass led the way in the contest with each going 3-for-4. Glass finished with three runs, three RBIs and a home run, while Twaddle had two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Becker also scored a run in the game, while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

With just two games to go in the fall, Becker leads the way for Murray State with a .667 average (14-for-21), a .708 on-base percentage, a whopping 1.000 slugging percentage, three doubles and two triples. Pitching wise, Robinson leads the staff with a 0.64 ERA to go along with two wins in three appearances. In addition, she currently has 11 strikeouts and has allowed just one run on one hit over 11 innings of work.

The Racers will wrap-up their fall season in two weeks against Shawnee CC on Oct. 17. First pitch for the doubleheader against the Saints is set for 4 p.m., at Racer Field.
