Softball Tabbed Fourth In OVC Preseason Poll

The Murray State softball team was picked fourth in the annual OVC preseason poll, as voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The Racers are coming off a historic 32-23 season in which they made the program's first appearance in the OVC championship game. MSU turned in a 16-9 record in OVC play and finished the regular season in fourth place. The Racers will return all but three players from last year's team including All-OVC selections Mo Ramsey and Shelbey Miller and All-Newcomer honorees Mason Robinson and Jessica Twaddle.
Defending league champion SIU Edwardsville was picked first, while 2014 regular-season champions Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky followed in second and third, respectively. The Racers finished the poll just six votes behind EKU and well ahead of fifth-place UT Martin and sixth-place Tennessee Tech. Eastern Illinois was tabbed seventh, while Morehead State was picked eighth to round out the probable OVC tournament field.
Murray State will begin its 2015 campaign Feb. 6-8 at Georgia's Eighth Annual Red & Black Showcase in Athens. While in the Peach State, the Racers will take on the host Bulldogs, Illinois, Winthrop and Coppin State in the season opener.
