Stevens and Steigerwald Take Home OVC Honors

Murray State women's soccer players Taylor Stevens and Alex Steigerwald were named the adidas® OVC Soccer Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the week. Weekly voting comes from the sports information directors from the member schools of the Ohio Valley Conference.
This is the second week in a row Stevens has won OVC Honors, fourth of her career. This is the first time Steigerwald has won the honor .
Stevens has been a leader on defense that has help lead Murray State to its best conference start in program history. Stevens played all 90 minutes of each match, leading a defense that did not give up a goal all weekend. Stevens also scored the game winning goal in the Racers match against Belmont and had the assist to help score the game winning goal in the match against Jacksonville State.
Steigerwald recorded her first collegiate shutout against Belmont. She recorded six saves including a crucial save in the 89th minute. Following up her shutout at Belmont, Steigerwald recorded another shutout at Jacksonville State where she had three saves in the match.
Next match for the Racers will be Thursday as the team travels to Morehead, Ky, to take on the Eagles of Morehead State. First kick is set for 6 p.m. The next home match for Murray State will be Friday October 23 when the Racers take on SIU Edwardsville.
