Racers Chase Title At Novadel

The Murray State men's golf team finished Monday at the APSU Intercollegiate in Hopkinsville, Ky., with a spot in fifth place at the Links At Novadel Golf Club.
The Racers carded a red-hot 12-under-par 276 in the morning round to grab the 18-hole lead, but fell back to fifth place with an afternoon 287. In a birdie-rich environment, the Racers (563) begin the final round seven shots off the lead of UT Martin and Belmont at 555. Western Illinois (556) and Missouri State (562) have third and fourth place.
Murray State's Duncan McCormick led the way with rounds of 68-72 for 4-under-par 140 which was good for a spot in 14th place, while Jared Gosser and Preston French shared 20th place after they shot identical scores of 70-71=141. Brock Simmons was in 23rd place after scores of 68-74=142 and Matthew Zakutney had a spot in 46th place with rounds of 74-73=147.
Gabe Wheeler and Daniel Taylor are playing as individuals for the Racers. Wheeler was in 12th place overall and first among the 11 solo players with scores of 70-69=139. Taylor had scores of 75-72=147 and was seventh among solo players and 46th overall.
The rest of the field was made up by New Orleans (568), Nicholls State (570), Austin Peay (570), Bradley (575), Tennessee State (579) and Eastern Illinois (581).
The final round is set for 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The Links at Novadell is playing to a par of 72 and 6,841 yards.
