Murray State head women's basketball coach Rob Cross has announced the signing of Jessica Richards to the Racers women's basketball program beginning next year. Richards is a 6-2 post from Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Jessica Richards to the Racer Family," said Cross.
"Jessica is first and foremost a great student and person of character from a very strong family. Jessica is a highly skilled forward with a great scoring touch around the basket and on the perimeter. She is an outstanding rebounder and a physical defensive presence in the paint and we expect her to be able to come in and make an immediate impact in the post."
This past season for Innisdale High School, Richards averaged 18.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 55 percent from the floor, 85 percent from the free throw line and 35 percent from 3-point range. Richards has been the Co-MVP of her squad for the past three seasons.
"Jessica is a tremendous low post player that can play with her back to the basket and can also knock down the outside shot," said Richards' high school coach Joe Denis.
"I have coached Jessica since the sixth grade and it's her unbelievable discipline and work ethic that separates her from others. She will get in the gym early to lift weights and work on her shot and that is why her skill set is beyond her age right now."
