Racers Begin Spring Season In The Desert

Round 1 Results
The Murray State men's golf team got their spring season going Sunday in the first round of the Loyola Golf Invitational. The 54-hole event is being played at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona.
The Racers had a share of eighth place with UMKC in the field of 17 schools after the first 18 holes played on Sunday. MSU's score of 298 put them ahead of Air Force, Bradley and Seton Hall all at 302. MSU trailed sixth place Gonzaga (296).
Murray State's Jordan Smith and Jared Gosser shared 21st place each carding a 1-over-par 73. Duncan McCormick was in 42nd place with a 75. Preston French was in 61st place with a 77 and Matthew Zakutney's 79 put in 78th position. Brock Simmons is playing the tournament as an individual for the Racers and also shot a 79.
The Racers' round two tee times begin at 10 a.m. Central Time and their playing partners are Air Force, Bradley and Seton Hall.
The Palm Valley course is playing to a par-72 and 7,015 yards.
Loyola University of Maryland is the host of the event this week.
