Rifle In Second After Day 1 at OVC Championship

The Murray State rifle team trails leaders Jacksonville State by just eight points after day one of the 2015 OVC Rifle Championships at the Gamecock Rifle Range in Jacksonville, Alabama.
The Racers turned in a team score of 2303 in the smallbore portion of the event, while the host Gamecocks cranked out the day's best score at 2311. UT Martin currently sits eight points behind MSU in third at 2295, while Morehead State follows at 2292. Columbus State shot a 2246 and is currently in fifth place, while the UT Martin Women rounded out the day's scores at 2193.
Ben Estes led Murray State by tying a career-high in the event at 583, finishing just one point behind the individual leader, Jacksonville State's Dan McCall. Kelsey Emme followed Estes with a 578, while Ivan Roe finished with a 572. Tessa Howald and Hannah Harris rounded out MSU's squaded shooters on the day at 570 and 565, respectively.
The Racers will return to the Gamecock Rifle Range on Sunday for the air rifle portion of the competition, as they battle for their 12th OVC title and first since 2011.
