| Murray State senior Jordan Smith and Jacklyn Van Meter, a sophomore, were named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office. Van Meter earned the award solo and Smith shared the OVC weekly award with Taylor Riggs of Eastern Kentucky and Brendon Caballero of UT Martin. Smith, from Murray, Ky., finished in a three-way tie for first place at the weather-shortened Grover Page Classic held at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tennessee. He carded rounds of 71 and 70 and finished with a 141 (-3) in a field of 78 golfers to get his first collegiate win. |
Smith is seventh in the OVC with a 72.5 stroke average.
Van Meter, from Bowling Green, Ky., carded a round of 73 on Monday before rain washed out the final round of the Lady Eagle Invitational held at the Hattiesburg Country Club in Mississippi. That placed the sophomore fourth in a field of 83 competitors and helped the Racers finish eighth overall as a team.
Van Meter is the Racers' second OVC weekly honor after Abbi Stamper on Sept. 10.
Van Meter currently ranks ninth in the OVC in stroke average at 76.7.
Both Murray State teams return to the links (March 16) at the Bobby Nichols Invitational in Sevierville, Tenn.Â
