Racers Compete At Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

The Murray State men's golf team fired the best round of the day at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Monday, but had a spot in fifth place heading to Tuesday's final round in Sevierville, Tenn.

The Racers carded a blistering 8-under-par 280 in the morning which included a pair of 3-under 69s by Jared Gosser and Jordan Smith.

The afternoon wasn't as kind to the Racers when they finished with a 297 and a total of 577. MSU is nine shots off the lead of Southern Illinois at 568. West Georgia held down second place at 569, while Jacksonville State was in third place at 575.

Gosser had a spot in 13th place with scores of 69-74=143, while Smith (69-75=144) and Brock Simmons (71-73=144) shared 17th place. Preston French had scores of 71-75=146 for a spot in 33rd place and Duncan McCormick was in 46th place after rounds of 74-75=149.

Matthew Zakutney is playing the event as one of six individuals and was 76th place with scores of 75-75=150.

Wright State, Detroit, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin shared fifth place at 579. Arkansas State (582), Longwood (584), Carson-Newman (586), Samford (587), Eastern Kentucky (588), Evansville (593) and Tennessee State (600) rounded out the field.

Tomasz Anderson of Jacksonville State and Carson-Newman's Andrew Hall share the lead at 136.

The final round is Tuesday morning at the Sevierville Country Club. Â The Shotgun start is at 9 a.m. Central Time.
