Downey Named ADIDAS OVC Pitcher of the Week

Murray State's Brock Downey has been named this week's ADIDAS OVC Pitcher of the Week for his performance Friday in the Racers' 8-2 victory over Dayton.
The defending OVC Co-Pitcher of the Year held the Flyers to just one hit in 7.1 innings of work Friday and held the Flyers hitless until the eighth inning. Downey recorded a season-best 11 strikeouts in his second win of the season and at one point, struck-out five batters in a row. It was Downey's second double-digit strikeout performance of his career.
The only hit Downey surrendered was a bleeder that hit right in front of the plate and weakly rolled down the foul line in fair territory. Downey was named Pitcher of the Week once last season.
Downey and the rest of the Racers have a busy schedule this week as they travel to Lexington for Tuesday contest with Kentucky. MSU then hosts Harris Stowe Wednesday in the 2015 home opener and opens OVC play with a three-game set against UT Martin at Reagan Field this weekend.
