Simmons Leads Racers In Florida Event

The Murray State men's golfer Brock Simmons led the way for the Racers through 36 holes of the FAU Slomin Autism Championship in Lake Worth, Florida.

Simmons carded scores of 72-75=148 and has a spot in 38^th place in the field of 104 players at the Fountains Country Club. Other MSU scores were Jordan Smith in 46^th place with scores of 70-79=149 and Duncan McCormick in 68^th place with rounds of 77-75-152. Preston French was in 87^th place with scores of 77-78=155 and Jared Gosser had scores of 80-85=165 for a spot in 109^th place. Matthew Zakutney is playing the event as an individual and was in 111^th place with rounds of 88-80=168.

The Racers were in 17^th place after rounds of 296-308=604. The Racers led 18^th place Middle Tennessee (606) and trailed 16^th place Rhode Island (601). The leader was Central Florida at 572 and second place belonged to host Florida Atlantic, East Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Northern Illinois and Connecticut at 583. The rest of the top-10 included: Hartford (584), DePaul (588), Arkansas State (590) and Stetson (590).

The final round of the 54-hole event is Sunday. The Racers' are paired with St. John's, Morehead State and Middle Tennessee. Their first tee time is at 7 a.m. Central Time.
