Van Meter Leads Racers In Hattiesburg Event

The Murray State women's golf team began play Monday at the Lady Eagle Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Racers had a spot in eighth place in the field of 14 teams at Hattiesburg Country Club after they carded a 314. MSU was three shots behind Alabama State and one shot up on host Southern Mississippi.

MSU's Jacklyn Van Meter led the way with a 73 and had a spot in fourth place in the field of 78 players.

Other Racer scores included Moa Folke with a 79 and a spot in 37^th place, while Sydney Trimble and Sophie Hillier shared 48^th place after each carded an 81. Abbi Stamper was in 57^th place after an 81.

MSU has two players in the field as individuals. Minta Yin fired an 83 and was in 62^nd place, while Gina Nuzzi was in 65^th place with an 84.

Western Kentucky was the first round leader at 293, with South Alabama (301), Houston Baptist (304), Stephen F. Austin (304) and Memphis (308) making up top-5.
