Racers Start Top-10 At Ole Miss - Stamper 13th

The Murray State women's golf team began play at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss.

The Racers had an excellent round to get started in the 54-hole event and had a spot in eighth place in the field of 18 teams. MSU's 296 was in front of ninth place Clemson (297) and 10th place Ole Miss and Kennesaw State (298). The Racers trailed Maryland and Memphis who shared sixth place at 293. Furman set the pace after the first 18 holes with a first place score of 288. Texas A&M was in second at 289 and Fresno State was in second at 299. Tennessee State and Kent State shared fourth place at 292.

The Racers were led by Abbi Stamper who carded an even-par 72 and had a spot in 13th place in the field of 96 players, while Moa Folke had a spot in 21st place with a 73. Sydney Trimble's 75 was good for a spot in 35th place, while Sophie Hillier was in 48th place after a 76. Jacklyn Van Meter had a score of 78 and was in 65th place.

East Tennessee (299) was in 12th place, while Harvard (302), Samford (304), Tulsa and Mercer (309) rounded out the top-16.

The Racers played the opening round with Maryland and Samford.

MSU starts round two Saturday at 9 a.m. and they'll be paired with Maryland and Clemson.
