Racer Golf Set To Host MSU Invitational

The Murray State women's golf team hosts their annual spring event when the Murray State Invitational is played Friday and Saturday at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.
The Racers will look for their third straight championship and seventh in the last eight years.
The 54-hole tournament features seven Ohio Valley Conference teams including the Racers, plus Austin Peay, Belmont, Morehead State, SIUE, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech. The rest of the field of 11 teams is made up by Butler, Cincinnati, Marshall and Xavier.
The Racers enter their home event with building confidence after their showing over the weekend at the Ole Miss Intercollegiate. In the best field outside the NCAA Tournament and against a high-level course, the Racers carded scores of 296-301-304=901 and placed 12th. Moa Folke placed 11th at Ole Miss and lowered her season scoring average to 76.4 for sixth place in the Ohio Valley Conference. Jacklyn Van Meter is also averaging 76.4 this season. Abbi Stamper and Sydney Trimble are 12th and 13th in the league with scoring averages of 76.9 and 77.3. Sophie Hiller is 16th in the OVC at 78.0.
The Racers won in 2014 with a 15-shot win over Southern Illinois. In 2013, MSU had a nine-shot win over Lipscomb. Drury was the last team (other than Murray State) to win the event with an eight-shot win over the Racers in 2012.
Murray State's Delaney Howson won the last two medalist honors and set the tournament scoring mark last year with scores of 71-75=146.
Fans are invited out to Miller Memorial to watch the competition. Admission is free.
Thursday finds all of the teams playing practice rounds. Friday calls for 36 holes of stroke play competition with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Saturday's final round also starts at 8:30 a.m.
