5/14/2015 10:40:00 AM | Softball
Senior Alexa Becker and sophomore Jessica Twaddle of the Murray State softball team were both named as All-Mideast Region selections Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Becker was named to the second team as a shortstop, while Twaddle earned third-team honors at first base.
Becker and Twaddle now represent the fourth and fifth all-time NFCA postseason honors for MSU softball and the first since 2012. Jenna Bradley & Lauren Buch were the first to receive the award in 2011 and were joined by Casey Castile in 2012.
Becker, a 2015 All-OVC selection, was second on the team in batting average this season at .357 and led the team with 27 walks and 10 stolen bases. The school's all-time leader in runs, doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs added to her totals this season with team-highs of 57 runs and 19 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 34 RBIs.Â
The senior ended the season on a season-high 11 game reached base streak and tallied a hit in each of MSU's four OVC tournament games. She totaled 17 multiple hit games throughout the season including registering three hits four times and four hits once. She ended her final year with a .632 slugging percentage and a .483 on-base percentage.
Twaddle, the 2015 OVC Player of the Year, captured the OVC regular-season batting title going away with a regular-season average of .439, clearing her nearest competitor by 36 points. She led Murray State in nearly every category including hits at 72, RBIs at 54, slugging percentage at .663, on-base percentage at .483 and final batting average at .426
The sophomore tallied 21 multiple hit games during the season and had 17 multiple RBI games. She also began the season on a school-record 37 reached base streak, while also hitting in 19 straight games to set a separate school record. In February against Gardner-Webb, she set a new school single-game record when she tallied seven RBIs in one game.
