Offense Slowed in Loss at Belmont

The Murray State offense was held mostly in check Sunday in the series finale at Belmont. The Racers fell 7-1 and collected just 6 hits in the loss.
Derek Yoder accounted for two of MSU's (14-35, 9-15 OVC) hits in the loss. It was Yoder's 10th multi-hit game of the season. The Racers' lone run of the game came in the top of the ninth on a Clay Kelly fielder's choice and error by the Bruins which allowed Kipp Moore to score.
Belmont pounded-out 13 hits in the win and after a bit of a slow start in the first and second innings, the Bruins (25-21, 13-10) jumped on the scoreboard with a three-run bottom of the third. BU also added runs in the fourth and fifth innings and closed the day offensively with two runs in the eighth.
The Racers used five pitchers in the game with Brandon Hicks getting the start and taking the loss. Hicks allowed three earned runs over three innings of work while Sheldon Baxter pitched the fourth and fifth, John Lollar pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh and John Rafferty and Andrew Bramley combined to pitch the eighth.
MSU returns to action this weekend as Eastern Kentucky comes to Reagan Field for the final conference series in Murray of 2015. First pitch in the set will be at 6 p.m. Friday.
