Twaddle, Robinson Sweep OVC Weekly Honors

For the third time this season, members of the Murray State softball team completed a sweep of the weekly awards. Sophomores Jessica Twaddle and Mason Robinson were named as final adidas® OVC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, of the 2015 season, by the league office Monday.
Twaddle continued to prove how she earned the league's batting title in the final week of the season by going 8-for-14 with a pair of doubles and a home run. She tallied at least one hit in all five games and had multiple hits in three of those contests. In game two Saturday against UTM, the Franklin, Tennessee native proved she could do it all by going 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs, two walks and a home run. In addition, she turned in a weekly on-base percentage of .632, a slugging percentage of .929 and committed just one error in 48 chances at first base.
Robinson was 3-0 last week, picking up a win against Memphis, followed by back-to-back wins at UT Martin. Against Memphis, Robinson tossed a complete game and gave up just one run with two strikeouts. In her two wins against Martin, the native of Lewis Center, Ohio again limited the opposition to just one earned run in each game and finished the week with a .270 opponent's batting average.Â
The honor is Twaddle's second of the season and is the third for Robinson. In total, a Racer earned Player of the Week four times and Pitcher of the Week four times. The four wins in each category is a record, as is the eight total wins, breaking the previous mark of four set in 2012.
This week, Twaddle, Robinson and company will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois in search of the program's first NCAA bid. The third-seeded Racers will open play at the 2015 OVC Softball Championship with six-seed Eastern Illinois Wednesday at 10 a.m.
