Smith becomes Racers' 20th Academic All-American

Murray State men's golf senior Jordan Smith has been named to the Capital One Men's and Women's At-Large Academic All-America Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Smith is the first men's golfer at Murray State and 20th overall at MSU to be named Academic All-America. Eddie McFarland was the first in 1976 from the Racer football team. Smith is the third selection this school year for the Racers as he joins softball student-athletes Alexa Becker and Jessica Twaddle.
Among at-large selections, there are two from the Ohio Valley Conference.
Smith is joined on the All-America list by Eastern Kentucky senior tennis player Amandine Faouzi.

Smith, from Murray, Ky., had an outstanding senior season in the spring when he helped the Racers to a second place showing at the OVC Championship. He was All-OVC and seventh in the league with a 72.8 scoring average. He played in 12 events in the fall and spring and placed in the top-10 nine times, including a top-10 showing at the OVC Championship. He carried a 4.0 grade point average and graduated this spring from Murray State with a degree in telecommunications & systems.
The CoSIDA at-large teams include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as bowling, crew and field hockey for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.
Overall the Ohio Valley Conference has had 242 student-athletes earn Academic All-America honors since 1970. Overall the OVC has had 12 total Academic All-American selections this school year.
