Murray State interim women's tennis head coach Jorge Caetano has announced the signing of five student-athletes for 2015-2016 academic year. Amina Hadzic of Esbjerg, Denmark; Jeanne Masson of Dianrd, France; Haily Morgan of Anthem, Arizona; Alina Schibol of Hamburg, Germany who is transferring from IPFW and Mari Udagawa of Tokyo, Japan have all selected to further their academic and athletic careers with the Racers.
"I am very pleased with this year's class and it was not an easy task to bring in this many players that play at such a high level," said Caetano. "I was very careful when looking at the prospects because I wanted to make we recruited young women that understood what it means to be a student-athlete at Murray State and all five of these young ladies not only understand that, but embody it both on and off the court. This group is very talented and determined and they are willing to work hard both on court and in the classroom in order to have a successful college career."
After winning back-to-back OVC championships, expectations will be high for the Racers, but Caetano feels that his seniors and the newcomers will be up to the task. "Heading into this season expectations are very high, but our seniors Megan Blue, Erin Patton and Suzaan Stoltz know what it takes to win the OVC and I am sure they will do a great job leading this young group. We have a lot of talent, but we will have to work even harder this year to win a third straight title, so I can't wait to get back on the courts and work with these young ladies."
Caetano continued his breakdown of the class of 2015-16 with individual thoughts on each incoming player.
Amina Hadzic: "Amina is an aggressive player who has always been in the top three in her age group in Denmark. She is a great competitor and a true champion who has won a lot of national tournaments. She has also played in the best league in Denmark, so she knows what is like to play in a team setting. She has a lot to add to our program and I can't wait to watch her represent Murray State."
Â
Jeanne Masson: "Jeanne is a very talented young girl who plays very different than most girls. She has great hands and likes to change the pace of the game which gets a lot of opponents in trouble. She has very good results back in France, but unfortunately she hasn't been able to travel that much to play in tournaments. However, lucky for us she was under the radar of the big schools, so I am very happy we were able to sign her and I am looking forward to watch her develop as player."
Haily Morgan: "Haily is a very determined young girl with a lot of talent. She is an aggressive baseliner who likes to go for her shots and that is one of the key elements to becoming a successful college player. Even though she hasn't played that many junior tournaments, she has great wins against high ranked girls in America and has also played professional tournaments, so she is very familiar with high level tennis. She had the opportunity to play professionally after high school, but I am very glad and happy she decided to join the Racer Nation."
Alina Schibol: "Alina is a very strong doubles player with great hands and even though she will be a junior, she still has a lot of potential to grow as a player. She is an aggressive singles player with good experience. She played mainly in the two-spot last year at IPFW and had good results against some tough opponents in the Summit League. She is a great student who has great character and will be a great fit for our program."
Mari Udagawa: "Mari is a very dedicated girl who decided to move to Croatia and live far from her family in order to focus on her tennis career. She knows how to compete at the highest level as she has traveled the world playing ITF tournaments and her experience will for sure help our team and program in the future."
