Former Racer Newcomb Qualifies For PGA Tour Event

The Greenbrier Classic
Former Murray State golfer and Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, Patrick Newcomb, qualified for this week's PGA Tour stop in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The Greenbrier Classic is contested Thursday through Sunday on the Old White TPC.
Newcomb fired a 6-under par 65 at the Monday qualifier where he nabbed one of four spots in a field of 77 competitors.
This marks the second time Newcomb earned a spot in a PGA Tour event following his October 2014 appearance at the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Ga., where he carded rounds of 75-71=146 and missed the cut by six strokes.
Newcomb's first round will begin at the 10th hole Thursday at 12:40 p.m. CT. His playing partners are Steven Alker of New Zealand and Benjamin Alvarado of Chile.
The Golf Channel will have live coverage of the Greenbrier Classic Thursday and Friday at 3 p.m. CT. Â CBS has coverage on the weekend with coverage beginning at 2 p.m. CT Saturday and Sunday.
Newcomb finished his career at Murray State with an appearance in the NCAA's in 2013, after he had posted back-to-back OVC Player of the Year honors. Before he turned professional, Newcomb was a back-to-back Kentucky State Amateur champion in 2011 and 2012. His amateur career also carried him to the quarterfinals of the US Amateur in 2012
