Murray State head women's basketball coach Robert Cross has announced the signing of Kacie Fountain, a 5'7" point guard from Walker, La., to the Racers.
Fountain averaged 13.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and three steals per game last season for the Wildcats. Fountain raised her game in Walker's biggest matchups of the season as she averaged 18 points, eight boards, 4.5 assists and 5.5 steals a game against ranked opponents from the state of Louisiana.
"Kacie is a high character person that comes to MSU with a history of laying it all on the line and doing whatever it takes to help her team win," said Cross.
"Her sacrifice, leadership and toughness this past year gave her team a chance to make it to the 5A State Championship Game in Louisiana. She is a smart playmaker that can score in a variety of ways and does a great job of running a team. Even though she missed this summer, we fully expect Kacie to come in and contribute right away," continued Cross.
Fountain, who was also recruited heavily by Delaware, helped lead Walker to their first state tournament since 2009 and first state title game since 1977. Fountain was an All-State selection in 2015, while also being selected to the All-District, All-Parish and All-Baton Rouge Area teams. Fountain also was awarded the 2015 Parish Playmaker of the Year Award.
"We feel like we got a true steal by being able to make Kacie a part of the Racer Family," said Cross.
"She is by far the toughest kid I've ever coached, and she will be an asset to Murray State with her leadership and her desire to make others around her better," said Walker girls basketball coach Korey Arnold.
"The main thing they're going to get is a hard-nosed kid, who's going to work hard to do whatever she can to help the team. You know she's going to take that toughness with her," said Arnold.
Fountain joins six others in this year's recruiting class in Bria Bethea, Abria Gulledge, Krystal James, Michaela Manley, Daniella Pisano and Taylor Reese.
