Racers Shutout in Exhibition Against Troy
8/15/2015 4:42:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Murray State women's soccer team suffered at 3-0 defeat on Saturday at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky., against Troy in their only exhibition game of the 2015 season.
Â
The Racers were able to keep pace with Troy for much of the first half. MSU, however, found itself in a scoreless tied at the half having the Trojans had two goals called back due to being offside.
Â
However, Troy pulled away in the second half with three goals, the latter two within minutes of each other.
Â
Despite the loss, head coach Jeremy Groves said there's a lot his team can take away from the match.
Â
"The first ten minutes and the last fifteen minutes I thought went really well," said Groves. "We could've been up 2-0 within those first ten minutes. But Troy is a good opponent, they were good last year and will be good this year."
Â
Groves said he was also impressed at how the freshmen performed in the exhibition match. Caroline Ashton and Kinsleigh Robb saw their first collegiate minutes as starters for the Racers. Freshmen Cori Cain and Alex Steigerwald also received playing time in the contest.
Â
Murray State officially starts the 2015 season August 23 at Starkville, Mississippi where they will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Kickoff set for I p.m.
The Racers return to Cutchin Field for their home opener against Louisiana Tech Sept. 11.
