Former Racer Lane Announces NFL Retirement

Former Murray State defensive lineman and 2009 OVC Defensive Player of the Year Austen Lane announced his retirement from the NFL this week.

The Racers' all-time leading sack and tackles-for-loss leader was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. After leaving the Jaguars in 2013, Lane went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Detroit lions and the Chicago Bears.

Lane broke the news to his fan via his Twitter account on Monday. "These past five years have been a dream come true and I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, fans and staff for making the beautiful ride possible," said Lane. "I am grateful for what this game has given me and the life lessons it has taught me. I am excited to start the next chapter of my life and pursue some of my other passions. Thanks again everyone and I'll catch ya'll on the flip side."

Lane had 40 starts in 43 games in his career with Murray State where he finished with 209 total tackles, 102 solo and 107 assisted. In addition, 53.5 of those tackles were for loss for a total of 277 yards, while he also made 29.0 sacks for a loss of 200 yards.
