Racers Open Season At Miller Memorial

The Murray State women's golf team opens the 2014-15 season at home (Sep. 14-15) at the MSU Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.

The Racers are looking for their first win since 2013. MSU has won its own event three of the six times it has been held.

The MSU Invitational will be contested over 36 holes with 18 holes being played both Monday and Tuesday. Monday's play begins at 11 a.m. and Tuesday's final round begins at 10 a.m.

A field of 14 teams competes including six Ohio Valley Conference schools: Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, SIUE, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State. The rest of the field is Southern Illinois, Cumberlands, Indiana State, IPFW, Marshall and Lipscomb.

In 2014, Southern Illinois and the Racers tied at 901 and the Salukis won in a playoff. MSU's Abbi Stamper tied for medalist honors with Samantha Griffith of Lipscomb with a score of 218.

Former Racer Delaney Howson set the individual scoring record of 211 in 2013. The Racers set the team record of 899 in 2011.

Murray State will field one team of five players and four individuals. Moa Folke leads the team effort along with Sophie Hillier, Abbi Stamper, Anna Moore and Sydney Trimble. MSU's individuals entered include: Nadine Innes, Leah Rose Judd, Jacklyn Van Meter and Jane Watts.
