Softball Continues Strong Fall With Two Shutouts

The Murray State softball team began continued its hot start to the fall season last Sunday when it picked up a pair of shutout wins over Kentucky Wesleyan, 5-0 and 7-0, at Racer Field in Murray.

In the first game, Maggie Glass led the way by going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a home run, while Jessica Twaddle followed at 1-for-2 with a run, a RBI, a double and a walk. Cayla Levins also had a productive outing, reaching base in all three plate appearances via a double, a walk and a hit by pitch.

Offensively in game two, Twaddle went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot with three runs, a RBI and walk to lead the Racers in the contest. Shelbey Miller was 2-for-4 in the game with a double and a RBI, while Leah Kesel scored twice, despite going 1-for-4. Glass continued to pad her power hitting stats in the finale, adding a triple that drove in two runs.

In the circle, all four Murray State pitchers saw action on Sunday with Haven Campbell and Amber Van Duyse getting the wins, J.J. Francis and Mason Robinson each picking up saves. In the opener, Campbell allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out three, while Francis had just two hits, a walk and a strikeout over the final three innings. For Van Duyse in game two she gave up just two hit and a walk with one strikeout, while Robinson allowed no hits to go along with three strikeouts and two walks.

Murray State returns to fall action Oct. 9 at Racer Field against Dyersburg State. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m.
